“Dear Coolermaster”
So, one of my good friends Dan ordered a Coolermaster Stacker 830E case with a 1kilowatt powersupply- you know, one of those $400 super cases that are supposed to be absolutely amazingly cool and awesome.
Naturally, being the cool friend I am, I was going to help him build his new super computer. So he communicated the ordering and the shipping and such. I was excited to build it and I’m sure that he was even more excited to be able to play Age of Conan on ultra mega settings.
Not too much to ask… right? This is where disappointment struck.
After class on 5/19/2008 I rushed over to Dan’s to help build the computer.
Q6600 to be overclocked
EVGA 780i
Geforce 9800GTX
8GB of RAM
All kinds of fancy shit…
We mount the CPU cooler and put the ram in and unpack everything.
When we go to screw the stand offs into the $400 case…. They don’t fit. The threading is all wrong. I don’t get it. I try to grab some of the spare standoffs I’ve got in my kit of shit.
No go. Coolermaster made a monumental mistake… why did they use completely non-standard standoff screws?! Crazy. They are just crazy!
We rush off to Fry’s Electronics to see if we can’t get some standoffs that fit. No luck.
We go back to Dan’s and he emails their tech support immediately requesting the correct standoffs. We discovered that this has happened before to some other people on the internet with some crafty iPhone on-the-go research.
So the standoffs get ordered.
Alright. So the standoffs arrive. Dan opens the package only to discover that it WAS NOT standoffs and was, in fact, the screws that SCREW INTO the standoffs. EPIC FAIL.
I call the hobby stores on the way home from school. MARVAC, one of the coolest hobby stores in Costa Mesa, CA, didn’t even have them. I pass by Fry’s Electronics again on the way home to speak with one of their computer technicians. I explain the situation and hope that he helps me out. We managed to find four standoffs that had the correct threading.
I go over to Dan’s with the FOUR stand offs. We build the whole case up get completely ready to build it only to discover that the standoffs I managed to find WERE TOO SHORT. Correct threading but too SHORT. DAMN.
OK. This is getting really dumb. On 5/24/2008 I go over to Dan’s in the morning confident that we may be able to exchange the case or at least get someone at Fry’s (they carry this case) to help us out.
We try to explain to them that we just want to exchange the case for another of the same case because Coolermaster messed up. They say, “GIVE US PROOF THAT YOU GOT IT FROM FRYS.” Well we couldn’t- it didn’t come from Fry’s.
Our last ditch effort to rectify this situation since clearly Coolermaster was incompetent and NewEgg wasn’t a brick and mortar that we could get parts from was to buy another of the same case- switch the parts from the new one with the old one – then returning the case with the wrong standoffs back to Fry’s for a full refund. We really didn’t want to do that.
Dan wrote this letter to Coolermaster:
“God. Fucking. Damnit.
Thank you asshats for sending me the wrong parts. Thank you for sending me the screws that screw into the standoffs instead of the standoffs/spacers that i fucking asked for. Thank you for being THE ONLY CASE IN THE GODDAMN FUCKING WORLD THAT USES M3 SIZED SPACERS INSTEAD OF 6-32. Thank you asshats for having the clairvoyance to fucking PACK THE WRONG FUCKING SCREWS IN THE CASE BOXES.
You are a worthless company with WORTHLESS customer service and WORTHLESS QA.
I hope your shit burns to the ground you faggot tea party bitches.
I hate you.”
It’s even become some kind of joke for Dan at work.
“i sent that to the people at my work
when they get mad at customers now
they say
“I hope your shit burns to the ground you faggot tea party bitches”"
So what did we learn here today boys and girls?
- Hope that you’re really lucky and don’t get the case that was packed by some idiot.
Of course we’re not REALLY angry over this- just thought it was worth sharing the irritation that Coolermaster caused us. Especially how frustrated it made Dan since he paid so much money for his new computer.

You told the story really really well. I am very informed now of what happened. I can’t believe any company would make that many mistakes and on top of that not do anything else after the fact to help fix the problem the sent Dan.
