Oy… this is terrible… I just don’t know what to say… She’s complaining because a Windows game won’t run on Ubuntu? It’s a bit like complaining a person from Spain doesn’t speak French…
And complaining that Linux doesn’t sync with the iPod out of the box?… Err… news flash - neither does Windows… You have to install software to make it work. Unfortunately Apple does *nothing* to help iPod support along on windows (a little surprising, given how much is owes to open-source software, in general), but the most basic amount of research would direct you to what you can install to sync your iPod.
The video portion is really poorly done, which is a shame because the written portion is mostly quite good (if not 100% accurate).
However, I don’t agree with your “grandma” factor conclusion. My feeling is that Linux is very good for either novice users or expert users. Middle-of-the-road users may have problems because they want to do “intermediate” things with a novice brain. Fortunately most users fall into the novice category, like Grandma. And when a linux desktop system is up and running, it generally stays up, barring some type of hardware failure. Unlike Windows et al, which is prone to viruses, malware, etc… If more people used Linux based computers, it’s a sure thing we’d have less bot-networks infesting the Web with spam.
Since Grandma likely does what most people do with their computers, surf the web, email, chat (maybe), write some documents, and play simple games (a la solitaire), she would likely feel quite at home on a Linux box.
This project was basically a parody and really wasn’t supposed to be factual.
The video is so very inaccurate. I made it in a hurry without proper equipment or planning and extremely unfairly biased against Ubuntu. I did this because I used the video as part of a presentation in my writing class. The class was very impressed by the presentation and its much easier to give a presentation about a subject with a touch of humor and with a strong bias for the positive or negative.
I’m well aware of the limitations of Ubuntu, Windows, and OSX in regards to all subjects I’ve presented.
ipod work on ubuntu, but you need to install software… stupid!!! also in windows, in mac, bla bla…. Install amarok, for example.
If you want games, you have a lot of games for Linux, and all MOST ARE FREE!!!. If you want windows games runing on Linux you have CEDEGA, WINE, ETC.. and if you want linux games on windows or mac, you don’t have nothing.
In linux you don’t have directx, but you have opengl, is the same, but better…
